Statement:
Mit seinen Alltagsskulpturen oder auch Performances, in denen durch kleinste oder offensichtliche Kontext-Verschiebungen eine zusätzliche oder andere Bedeutung entsteht, möchte Dietmar Walther diese Sachverhalte oder alltäglichen Skulpturen auffrischen. Dafür holt er „sie aus ihrem alten, verstaubten Befinden unserer Wahrnehmung heraus“ und stellt sie in einem unbelasteten Zustand zur Diskussion. Walther reduziert Gegenstände nicht zu Objekten, sie nehmen eine Funktion ein, die den Betrachter animiert, ihr Wesen und ihre Beschaffenheit bewusster wahrzunehmen. Unter anderem hat er schon eine Toilette auf Rädern über die Straße rollen lassen oder ein Spielzeugauto mit Feuerwerksraketen angetrieben.
Walther führt die Kunst zurück auf die Grundsätze der Ästhetik in ihrer Ursprungsbedeutung als die Lehre von der Wahrnehmung – während ästhetisch heute reduziert stehe für schön und geschmackvoll.
Diese Betrachtung ermöglicht es Walther, herkömmliche Sichtweisen auf Sachverhalte und gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge differenzierter zu sehen.
